    Course Overview:

    This certification course will be led by Mr. Jamshaid Mirza. Successful participants who passed the examination and also sufficient functional safety experience will achieve the prestigious Functional Safety Engineer (TÜV Rheinland) Certificate.

    This course will consist of first three days of classroom setting instructions that provide detailed information and examples / discussions for understanding and mastering the requirements of process hazards and risk assessments. Hands-on exercises are included to enable participants to practice the techniques and methodologies used in the PH&RA. Evening study time is recommended. The fourth day consists of a two-part ‘closed book’ examination (4 hours):

    Part 1: 20 multiples-choice questions
    Part 2: 5 case studies questions

     

    Course Objectives:

    This certification course will provide participants with knowledge, understanding and application of the internationally accepted and adopted methods and tools for identifying process related hazards and manage associated risks.

    The participants will be introduced to the concepts of the international standards that cover the area of process hazard and risk analyses. The participants will be able to take an active part in the PHA process and gain knowledge and about how to lead PHA sessions. They will also learn the relationship of the IEC 61508/61511 to the PH&RA.

    Engineers from process, electrical, safety, loss prevention, control systems & project management, operation and maintenance disciplines, who are involved in process safety or functional safety, including hazard and technical risk assessment, specification, design implementation, installation and commissioning, operation and maintenance of the process facilities and also:

    • Anyone accountable for the assessment and management of risks & hazards in the process industry
    • Those involved in the management, engineering, operations and safety of process operations
    • Consulting engineers, safety advisors
    • Persons with HAZOP study experience and basic knowledge of loss prevention
    & safety working practices

    What Will You Get:

    Those who attend this course and pass with a score of 75% will receive a ‘FS Engineer PH&RA (TÜV Rheinland)’ certificate from TÜV Rheinland, Germany, which will be valid for 5 years (can be renewed from TÜV against payment for another five years afterwards); TÜV will publish the name of the certified engineer on their web site. The certified engineers will receive a unique ID from TÜV Rheinland.

     

    Participant Eligibility:

    • A minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in the field of process or functional safety.
    • A university degree OR equivalent engineer level responsibilities status as certified by employer.

     

    Passing Requirements:

    • Full course attendance.
    • Exam pass score of minimum 75%

    Mr. Jamshaid Mirza is a Principal Consultant in Hendsa and TÜV Rheinland FS Expert (SIS, PH&RA), he is an accredited trainer by TÜV Rheinland and is well qualified to conduct courses, having had direct experience of being involved in risk decisions on actual applications and first hand involvement in standards development.

    Mr. Mirza has more than 40 years of experience in the Oil, Gas and Petrochemical Industry. He had worked for both the consulting and operating companies, like Fluor, Lummus, Technip, Woodside, West Australian Petroleum, Chevron, SABIC and RasGas LNG Co. Ltd. This combination of knowledge and practical experience is valuable and the course participants are able to learn techniques in interactive sessions where they perform analysis and calculations individually and in groups.

    • Computer Hazard & Operability Studies (CHAZOP)
    • Failure Modes & Effects Analysis (FMEA)

    Day 3 – Module 3

    • Layer of Protection Analysis (LOPA)
    • Event Tree Analysis (ETA)
    • Fault Tree Analysis (FTA)
    • Organizing risk assessment studies, defining scope & objectives
    • Leading PHA, HAZOP & risk assessment studies
    • Scribing, recording and preparation of reports & recommendations
    • Interface to Safety Requirement Specification
    • Human factors in process safety
    • Exercises & group workshops

     

    Day 4 – Exam (Maximum 4 hours)
